What's New
Kendra's Walk 2010
On Friday afternoon June 4th, friends, family and supporters of Kendra McBain held the second annual Kendra’s Walk, honouring both her memory and her dream of helping teenagers with cancer. Kendra, who was in her third year
of battling a rare form of cancer, died in December 2009 at age 18. Held at St. John’s-Ravenscourt School, the event drew more than 1,000 participants, raising over $100,000 for CancerCare Manitoba. Entertainment at the Walk included the debut of two songs written and performed by Kendra’s close friend Blair McFarlane, who credited Kendra’s “strength and courage” as motivation for the tribute. “The first song I wrote because of a new emotion
that had risen from the knowledge that one of my friends was battling cancer; the second ... in awe of how Kendra
carried on as an inspiration to kids battling similar diseases,” he said. Blair’s father, Dr. Bruce McFarlane, one of the event sponsors, added, “Kendra touched so many of us with her grace and courage in the face of a devastating illness.
My children and I are committed to using all of our energy and talents to keep her legacy alive.” No question Kendra
McBain was, and remains, an inspiration to us all.

Giving Back With The 2010 McFarlane Mission
Dr Bruce felt the need to give back using his skills and experience by heading up his 'McFarlane Mission', a volunteer trip to Monti Cristi, located in the Dominnican Republic during March 2010. Along with a group consisting of 4 dentists, 14 dental students, a hygienist, an assistant and his daughter Michelle, they ventured into the villages of some incredibly poor people with some incredibly urgent dental needs. The heat, bugs, languages, lineups and lack of electricity and running water were all obstacles the team had to overcome to deliver the best they could to a most appreciative group.
